As measures against preventable diseases, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora has appealed to the government of the Republic of Cuba to establish Vaccines production company in Nigeria.

The Minister made this appeal when the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Clara Pulido, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja

The Minister in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Obed Atuora noted that the collaboration would ensure that companies producing vaccines in the Republic of Cuba can be established in Nigeria for fruitful bilateral relationships.

He stated that Cuba has done so much in the Primary Health Sector, adding that the Nigerian government is also replicating the same for the growth and development of the nation

He  expressed the willingness of the Federal Government to collaborate with the Republic of Cuba to enable it to tap into Cuba’s wealth of experience to achieve its quest for health for all in the country.

According to him “vaccine production, will play a key role in tackling the emerging and re-emerging diseases in the country, such as Malaria, Lasa fever, monkey pox as all diseases have been declared emergency, globally”,  adding that the Nigerian government is making serious efforts in producing vaccines locally to enable the country to prevent childhood diseases such as polio, tetanus, and tuberculosis.

“knowledge and experience of those who are ahead of us in vaccine technology are something we must learn, through technology transfer”, Adeleke said.

Earlier, Ambassador Pulido said that she was in the Minister’s office to congratulate him on his assumption of duty and to seek the ministry’s collaboration in vaccine production for the betterment of Nigerian society or both countries.
