All is set for the launch of the National Asset Restoration programme as the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) mobilizes dignitaries for the event, holding on Sunday 8th June 2025 in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to flag off the NASENI’s Tractor Recovery Project in the North-East to boost mechanized agriculture and enhance food security in the country.

Statement issued by NASENI hinted that the event will take place at the Borno State Agricultural Mechanization (BOSAMAN) Farm Centre, Maiduguri in fulfillment of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by reviving broken-down or non-functional tractors.

Statement signed by Mr Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, Director of Information NASENI stated that the project is fully funded, supervised and executed by NASENI with support from the Agency’s technical partner, Machine and Equipment Corporation Africa Limited (MECA),

The statement said the programme is aimed at contributing meaningfully to the Federal Government’s food security, recovery and development agenda.

Vice President Shettima who is the Eminent Guest of Honour at the occasion, according to the statement will perform the launch ceremony with the support of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum and the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu and other dignitaries.

The statement revealed that Nigeria has about 55,000 broken-down tractors, whereas only 7,000-10,000 tractors are functional.

NASENI stated that the National Tractor Restoration Project, under the auspices of the National Asset Restoration Programme, involves the comprehensive restoration of multiple tractors in Borno and its environs for immediate deployment and to strengthen mechanized farming.

Each tractor it said has been comprehensively rehabilitated, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural upgrades making them ready for immediate deployment across farming communities, adding that the intervention represents a concrete step in rebuilding livelihoods, strengthening food systems, and revitalizing rural economies through home-grown engineering solutions.
