A US-based Nigerian University Don, Prof. Ibrahim Hauwa is now in Nigeria for a capacity-building mission for the Nigeria child.

A lawyer, author, and mother, Prof. Ibrahim Hauwa say she is back home to take away talented but less privileged children from the streets.

Prof. Hauwa stated this in Abuja when she was received in the audience by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

Professor Hauwa Ibrahim before joining the Harvard Divinity School as a Visiting Lecturer was jointly appointed Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.

Harvard Law School and Islamic Legal Studies Program have built up a unique practice, representing Shariah courts, women, and children.

In May 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed her to serve on the Presidential Committee charged with fact-finding to help rescue the 2019 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram from Chibok in Northern Nigeria.

She was also appointed by Acting President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo to the Presidential Investigation Panel to Review Compliance of the Armed Forces with Human Rights Obligations and Rules of Engagement in 2017.

The interesting story about Prof. Hauwa, a Laureate of European Parliament (Peace Prize) 2005 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought who was also a resident of Massachusetts, USA is that she once roamed the streets in Nigeria as a hawker

Consciously aware of where she came from, Professor Hauwa says, She has taught in 12 different countries and visited at least 70 countries of the world.

Experience according to Prof. Hauwa has taught her that Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) is the way to go and that is why she is back in Nigeria to train young Nigerians.

“I believe the future is STEAM and in each of these children, there is a rare gem. With just a little push, anybody can be somebody,” she said

In her response, Abike Dabiri-Erewa warmly thanked the delegation which includes nationals of Italy, Germany, and Kenya, for their desire to support young Nigerians in need.

She expressed delight with the initiative, saying, the contribution of Professor Hauwa to humanity will go a long way to solving humanitarian crises and engender national development.

In a statement, the NIDCOM boss appreciated the delegation for their patriotism and assured them of the Commission’s support in whichever way possible towards the realization of their goals.

Dabiri-Erewa in a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head, Media and Public Relations Unit of the NIDCOM stressed the Commission’s efforts and commitment to harnessing the potential of the Diasporans towards nation building.
