ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT: FG UNVEILS PLAN TO IMPLEMENT PRESIDENTIAL EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 5

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffery Nnaji has unveiled Federal Government’s plan to proffer solutions to the nation’s socio-economic challenges through implementation of Presidential Executive Order N0. 5

The Minister who spoke With newsmen in Abuja at the weekend said the Presidential Executive Order No. 5 essentially provides for the deployment of the Knowledge of Innovation, Science and Technology as tools needed to tackle identified problems in Nigeria.

Nnaji said that “Presidential Executive Order No. 5 is a visionary and transformative policy designed to drive innovation, promote science and technology, economic diversification, technological advancement of the nation and to promote domestic and foreign investments”.

The Minister who said the nation is endowed with human and unexplored Natural resources, however said despite the country’s rich endowment in natural resources, youth unemployment remains a massive challenge as the country constantly export domestic jobs by importing products that can be produced locally.

The Minister stated that the Presidential Executive Order NO.5 seeks to boost local production and ensure that Nigerians rely less on importation of goods, adding that the Government through “the Presidential Executive Order No. 5 is committed to solving Nigeria’s problems through Innovation, Science and Technology thereby creating a conducive environment to nurture the innovative spirit of our youths and entrepreneurs”‘.

The Minister also maintained that the Executive Order NO.5 will tackle the bottleneck mitigating against manufacturing sector in Nigeria, adding that improved power supply, locally fabricated machines, and local technologies if well harnessed will increase export and boost Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. James Sule, said that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with other Ministries, Agencies and the Media towards the implementation of Executive Order No. 05.
