The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Prof. Umar. Danbatta has commissioned e-library of the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies, an arm of Bayero University, donated by the Commission in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to the promotion of digital economy programmes.
In same day, the NCC boss received several awards as he chaired the commemoration of the international Women day, an honour organized by various youths entrepreneurial skills acquisition centers and empowerment programmes being supported by the commission alongside his pet project, Dambatta Charity foundation. The award came as a surprise at a public lecture put together by the Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) where over 200 women groups were represented in collaboration with the Aminu Kano Centre for Democracy Studies. Others who presented their awards at the event were the CDS, Mumbayya House and KCSF.

Earlier during the event, Danbatta stated that there were lots of potentials to be harnessed in the female folks. According to him, he had never hesitated to assign responsibilities to female colleagues in the commission as they did due diligence to their tasks.
The EVC said “I am a very, very strong believer of the tremendous potentials of members of the womenfolk. And they do their work with such finesse, not with any aggression like men do. Women, by their very nature are tender, he said, stressing further that “women attend to whatever they are doing with finesse in a very careful manner and they deliver on the targets given to them before deadlines,”

Danbatta, who said that respect for women was natural to him, also affirmed it was one of the values his late mum inculcated in him while expressing his delight about the fact that women are now working their way to the top echelon of responsibilities in the country.

“Women are being represented in every sector of the economy, in every area of human endeavours. We have them as engineers, medical doctors, seasoned administrators, name it. In the commission I am heading where we have 4 female directors. The Director of Zonal Operations is a woman. The Director of Policy competition, and Economic Analysis is a woman, and also a lawyer, the Director of Legal and Regulatory Services is a woman, and lastly the Director of Projects. And I am not saying this out of any disrespect for the womenfolk, far from that. Importantly more than 50% of the workforce in NCC is made up of women,” He said.

The NCC boss further stated that the Commission is particularly committed to bridging the gender-oriented digital divide. Hence the NCC Boss said that there will be more women and young girls participation in the digital ecosystem in line with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) resolution 70, which advocates gender mainstreaming and promotion of gender equality as well as the empowerment of women through information and communications technology (ICT). To mark the climax of the events, the EVC/CE commissioned the e-library of the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies to promote digital awareness and development.
