With over 36 products to showcase in the last one year, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu said Nigeria is set to take it’s rightful place as export nation and not a dumping ground by other countries any more.

Speaking on his one year’s achievement as Chief Executive officer of NASENI, Mr Halilu said his first year in office has been nothing short of transformative and reforms that provided a clear road map for the entire staff of NASENI

“From the outset, I brought a fresh, dynamic energy to the agency, steering it towards a future where technology and manufacturing are not just buzzwords but driving forces of national development.

“We have moved towards set targets, the narrative is that we are not saying we are going to do this or that alone, but we have gone beyond target set. As journalists, you have gone round the premises and confirmed all that we are saying” Halilu said

Reeling out some of the finished products already under going mass production for commercialisation, the EVC said “today Nigeria stands at the threshold of industrial renaissance, with NASENI at the forefront of several key initiatives to make that to happen”

“Over the past year, we have moved beyond envisioning a future of Industrial growth to actively building it. Our portfolio now include 36 market-ready innovations- from affordable solar lamps that can power our streets to cutting edge agricultural technologies that can help increase farming circles to three annually, and to put food on the tables of Nigerian families”

The NASENI boss said a milestone of efficient governance has achieved the results of rebranding NASENI, “Repositioning the agency with the 3Cs: Creation, Collaboration and commercialisation” adding that the feat also led to increased NASENI’s value investments to $3.25billion

He listed other achievements and products to include 3 Phase Smart Meters, NASENI EV Electric Pick up and cars, E-Tricycle, 14-inch laptop, Android Tablet and Phone, Power Storage, Power Stoves amongst others

On industrialization: the EVC said within the one year under review , NASENI has been bridging existing research-to-application gap, partnered with leading Industry leaders, developed off–grid solar lamp systems, established a lithium-ion battery manufacturing factory, electric and CNG transportation option and conversion center, a tractor assembly plant and solar irrigation systems.

Mr Halilu also delved into institutional reforms of the agency which he said led to the 2023-2027 Strategic Launchpad and robust ambition for technological growth of the country.

According to him, “Next Year, I will focus more on enhancing NASENI’S impact on Nigeria’s technological and industrial landscape .One of my primary goal is to ensure the commercialisation of all viable NASENI’s Products, eliminating the practice of letting prototypes gather dust on shelves”

On the availability of the products in the Nigerian markets, the agency Director, Technology Business Development, Engr. Benard Ozigi said most of the products are already in the markets, revealing that for now, NASENI is first dealing with government to government and corporations.

“Recall that we heeded the Presidential directive to mass produce our Solar Pump Irrigation Machine and we distributed 50 each states of the federation to boost crops production in the country particularly in areas where they are highly needed” he said
