Mrs Nonyem Onyechi, Acting Executive Vice Chairman/CE. National Agency For Science and Engineering Infrastructure. NASENI

In order to put the records straight, the management of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure NASENI has debunked information making the rounds in the media that the affairs of the Agency was not properly handed over to the next most senior officer of the Agency by out-going Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Prof. Mohammed Haruna, as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following a Presidential order, Haruna handed over the Agency to the Coordinating Director Planning and Business Development, Mrs.Nonyem Onyechi.

In a statement signed on Thursday by Mr. Segun Ayeoyenikan, NASENI Deputy Director Information, he said, the former Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive when he was in office as EVC/CE for a period of 10 years always handed over the office to Mrs. Onyechi “without any top Management or staff complaining about her non-suitability to act on behalf of the EVC/CE”

The statement added “and therefore in this instance, the former chief executive did not do anything differently”

While correcting the impression that there was tension and disquiet in NASENI system because of the appointment of Mrs. Onyechi in Acting EVC capacity, the statement also explained that the new development of leadership transition in NASENI did “not in any way create friction amongst the principal officers and top management of NASENI”

The Deputy Director information stressed NASENI Management’s appeal to the media to avoid sensational reports but to check facts with the Management before any future publications to give a balanced report.

According to Ayeoyenikan “Our doors are open whenever there are needs for clarifications, hence there was no need to spread information capable of overheating the NASENI system in order to allow the on-going transformation efforts in the Agency to be on course and to deliver the good of creating jobs and developing the Nigeria economy through technology advancement or innovations for the benefits of all”

He said that the Agency has been a peaceful organization where Management, staff and Unions deliberately work together with stakeholders toward the attainment of Nigeria’s Industrialization agenda by the Federal Government being championed by NASENI.

The signed statement enjoined the media not to spread information capable of overheating the NASENI system in order to allow the transformation efforts in the Agency to deliver the good of creating jobs and developing the Nigeria Economy through technology advancement or innovation for the benefits of all Nigerians.

The former EVC/CE of NASENI was given two-year extension in addition to serving for 10 years as chief executive of the Agency but the extension was later reversed by President Muhammadu Buhari. Haruna was directed to hand over administration of the affairs of the Agency to the next most senior officer.
